National Ocean Sciences Bowl

ExCEL took first place at the Washington State Ocean Sciences Bowl held on February 24th at the University of Washington. Team members Rebekah Altig, Kyle Crockford, Drew Goss, B.J. Schlecht, and Kirsten Williams went undefeated through 10 rounds of competition. Ocean Bowl is a quiz-show style competition with teams buzzing in to answer questions from all aspects of the ocean - including chemistry, physics, geography, geology, marine life, history and current events. The team now will represent Washington at the National competition in April at Stony Brook, NY. They also won a trip on the University of Washington's research vessel, the Thomas G. Thompson, where they will be able to learn what a research day is like for an oceanographer.

ExCEL was the only homeschool team at the State competition. Teams from high schools all around the state competed.
