American Sign Language  Grades 5th –High School.  Learn ASL vocabulary and phrases through games, songs, & worksheets.  We will also learn the alphabet, numbers, and some basic greetings.  Prerequisite:  a willingness to practice at home and come prepared to class.  Homework:  <1hr/wk.  (No class limit if one assistant/5 kids available.)  Shari Goss


Animal Fun  Grades K-1.  Will feature an animal type each week & discuss where it is found in the wild, as well as special features/adaptations.  We will also do a craft & sing a song or do a dance with movements related to the animal.  Students will be asked at first class what animals they would like to study.  Class limit: 10.

Around the World with Friends  Grades K-2.  Pack your suitcase and get ready to travel around the globe! We will learn about each of the 7 continents with a wide range of activities. These will include art, culture, geography, history and much more! But beware! A sense of adventure is REQUIRED for this course. Supply Fee: $10  Cheri Boteilho 


Beginning Spanish  Grades K-5 (older is OK if you’re patient!)  Class will utilize Rosetta Stone software.  Homework will be minimal. Cindy Jeffries 


Come Read With Me  Grades K-1.  Ease into your co-op day with a phonics video course from Calvert Curriculum.  Lessons teach and enforce beginning phonics skills.  Activities and reading time included.  Leann Collins


Cooking With Pam  Grades 6th and up.  Learn beginning kitchen and food skills. Make real home cooking projects with a certified Home Economics teacher.  Supply Fee: $10   Pam Crockford


Creation Science  Grades 2-5.  We will listen to exciting adventures by Vision Forum called the Jonathon Park series.  & discuss the real places, scientific discoveries, & evidence presented in each adventure.  Each student will receive & complete his own Jonathon Parks Study Guide.  Class limit:  10 students.  Supply Fee: $5 for Study Guide.  Gina Jatho


Drama:  American Girls  Grades 2nd - 6th  We will be working on the play, Home Is Where the Heart Is, an American Girls play about Kirsten coming to the New World, the sad things she faces, & the happy things too.  Cast includes 1 boy; 5 girls.  Audition required. Supply Fee: $5 Call Katie Boneski  835-7512

Drama:  Little Women  Grades 6th-High School  We will meet TWO HOURS weekly to work on the full-length version of Little WomenParts available for 9 girls.  Cast members with smaller parts may participate 1 hour/wk.  Audition required.  Homework:  1-2 hr/wk to memorize lines, gather props.  Supply Fee $5 for script.  April Boneski

Early Education Through the Love of Literature  Grades K-1.  Children will learn to love literature through reading stories and participating in hands-on activities.  They will learn what makes a good story.  Students will also be able to find basic math and science concepts presented through these activities.  Recommended supplies:  painting smock for crafts.  Class Limit:  12  Joy Wells


Elementary Chemistry  Grades 2-6.  We will be teaching the principles of chemistry through experimentation.  Each child will keep a lab notebook for definitions and recording findings from the experiments.  Prerequisite:  independent writing is necessary.  Class limit:  20.  Supply Fee $7.00.  Susan Warren


Elements of Art  Grades 2-5.  Students will be drawing, painting, and using oil pastels in a variety of art lessons.  Other art related projects may also be included.  Class limit:  15  Supply Fee $10.00.  Carolyn Benjamin


Excellence in Writing  Grades 2-6  We will be learning how to improve our writing structure & style by adding “dress-ups” to our compositions.  By using a checklist including adverbs, adjectives, clauses, etc. we will learn to edit a rough draft and come up with a much improved final copy.  Prerequisite:  needs to be able to write independently.  Homework:  <1 hr/wk.  Class limit:  14.  Supply Fee $5.00.  Susan Warren


Fitness for Kids  Grades K-2.  This exercise/movement class will feature simple games, music, and props such as soft balls, jump ropes, etc.  Class limit: 10Darlene Magnusson


Great Books  Grades 2-5th.  This class involves short story reading & discussion, art projects, & creative writing.  Homework:  <1 hr/wk.  Class limit:  10.  Parents responsible for purchase of texts used in class. Sara De La Fuente & Karen Guenther


Health  Grades 6(advanced)-High School.  Provides students with a thorough understanding of all important health issues.  Directs teens towards making wise choices.  Biblically-based, scientifically sound.  Will meet state H.S. health requirement.  Read, quiz & work during the week; discussions & guest speakers at co-op.  Final project required.  Homework: 2-4 hr/wk. Intermediate Literature  Grades 5-High School.  Let’s read some wonderful works of literature together, enjoy projects & class discussions.  We’ll read roughly one book, every three weeks or so.  Homework:  2-4 hours/wk., depending on reading speed.  Our projected reading list:  Amos Fortune, Free Man, Diary of Anne Frank, Robin Hood by Roger Lancelyn Green, A Wrinkle in Time, & 21 Balloons.  April teaches from a Biblical worldview.  Come share yours freely.  Students are responsible to find their own copy of these works.  April Boneski


Intro. to Quantum Physics & Relativity Grades 7-12. Ever wonder what Einstein was talking about?  We will use video lectures from Middlebury College geared to non-scientists at the beginning college level to cover the basic principles of physics and relativity. In-class discussions and tests; Students must purchase or arrange to check out textbooks for outside reading assignments (1-2 hrs per week)  Text books are Relativity and It’s Roots, Einstein’s Mirror and Inside Relativity.  I was able to get them all (used) and shipped to me for under $35 total. Latin  Grades 2-5.  This class will utilize Prima Latina by Memoria Press to gently introduce Latin to young students.  Each lesson includes a grammar skill, five vocabulary words with corresponding English derivatives, a practical Latin phrase, & one line of a prayer that is learned in totality by the end of five chapters.  Two semesters will be needed to complete the 25 lessons included in Prima LatinaClass Limit:  12.  Supply Fee:  $14.00 for Prima Latina Student Book.  Prima Latina/Latina Christiana Flashcards ($14.95) recommended but not required.  Gina Jatho


Literature & SAT Prep  High School.  Come join us at 9:00 a.m. to read and discuss some challenging and exciting literature.  We will read approximately one classic a month to discuss in class, as well as learn how to write a timed essay using topics from our class discussions.  This will help prepare students for the essay portion of the SAT.  Vocabulary building from these wonderful books will also be stressed.  Plan to read the assigned portion of the book at home each week.  Homework:  2-4 hr/wk.  Karen Osborne 


Math Help Pre Algebra level and up.  Bring your math homework and questions.  If you bring questions, we will work out the answers until you understand.  You can be in this class or drop in for help—sign up (and pay the $3) though if you will use this service even if you are signing up for another class too..  Leann Collins

Science Bowl Team Open to all 5th-8th graders (actual competition is 6th & up).  Allows middle school students to prepare for the Regional Science Bowl, a fun, fast-paced, “Jeopardy!” style competition.  Teams of 4 students answer questions from all areas of science and math.  We’ll discuss general science topics together, then review each week as a team using a buzzer system.  Students are expected to read ahead and come prepared to discuss the topic of the week.  No science experience is needed, just a desires to learn.  Ann Williams


Science Olympiad Team  4th grade – High School (3rd graders come try it out!)   Science Olympiad is a fun hands-on science competition.  Join the team and study in 2 or more areas of science competition.  Compete in knowledge events like forestry, meteorology, fossils, science of fitness, stars and more as well as building events like bridges, bottle rockets, egg drop, etc.  Ann Williams 


Spanish 2nd year  Grades 2-High School.  We will continue to use Rosetta Stone to introduce new Spanish vocabulary weekly.  Homework:  < 1 hr/wk; students will be expected to complete assigned workbook pages each week and review new vocabulary.  Prerequisite:  Completion of Spanish 1 ½ or 2.  Returning Student Supply Fee $2 for copy costs;  $14 for new or replacement workbook & copy costs.  Jodi Miner/ Sara DeLaFuente

 
Spell to Write & Read  Grades 2-5.  Students will learn to “decode” English words using phonograms & spelling rules.  They will practice phonograms & spelling rules each week as they record spelling words to study the upcoming week.  Homework:  1-2 hr/wk to study 20 new words & 20 review words; all 40 words testable following week.  Supply Fee $3 for composition notebook, folder, notebook paper & incentives.  Gina Jatho


Story/Craft Class  Grades K-1.  Craft activities will relate to stories read in class.  There will be a different story and/or theme each week.  Some of the stories will offer a Christian perspective.  Class limit: 10.  Supply Fee $10.00.  Carolyn Benjamin


Style & Composition in Writing  Grades 7th-High School  A writing class for writers in Jr. High and High School.  We’ll focus on editing, composing, creativity and simply practicing the art of writing.  We’ll answer the “what shall I write about?” question.  Prerequisite:  Intermediate writing ability.  Homework:  1-2 hr/wk.  Class Limit: 12  Supply Fee:  $6  April Boneski


Wild Animal Habitats  Grades 2-5th.  We will learn about animals which live on the different continents & in different habitats.  Topics will include endangered animals, the impact of humans on different animal habitats, & how special adaptations enable animals to thrive in varied habitats.  Activities will include some creative writing, art, putting together student “books” and maybe an “animal bowl” game.  Homework: <1hr/wk.  Karen Guenther


Worldview Study  Grades 7-High School.  This interactive Bible-based study will address how the Bible relates to all areas of life-theology, philosophy, biology, psychology, ethics, etc.  Homework:  Each student will journal daily 15-20 minutes. If your student will be taking this year long course for a credit worth of high school work they will also need to purchase Thinking Like a Christian Textbook. ($17.50 +shipping from Timberdoodle Co. at (800) 478-0672) or add $18.00 to your supply fee and indicate this on your registration form.)  For these students there will be additional daily homework, take-home quizzes and tests to receive a class grade. Supply Fee for All Students:  $21 for Worldview Student Notebook/Journal (After Aug.4th, student must obtain Worldview Student Notebook & supply fee will be $3.50) Susan Warren
